BRAND NEW ITALIAN CONCEPT COMING TO DOWNTOWN VANCOUVER THIS SPRING
Seasoned restaurateurs set to open Locanda dell’Orso, taking over iconic Downtown location
Locanda dell’Orso, or ‘Inn of the Bear’ in Italian, is set to reignite the Italian restaurant scene in Downtown Vancouver, bringing generations of culinary knowledge, and a crafted blend of local and international expertise to offer an indulgent, Italian culinary experience. The new restaurant will be located at 350 West Pender Street under the Victorian Hotel, and will open to the public mid-May, 2024.
The restaurant draws inspiration from the Italian legend of the Innkeeper and the Bear. Legend has it, a bear – escaped from the Colosseum – sought refuge in the courtyard of an inn where it was welcomed with food and shelter. Locanda dell’Orso was built on this philosophy, leading with a welcoming and hospitable atmosphere where customers can celebrate food and cultural diversity.
The brand focuses on providing an elevated, Italian dining experience, with an ambience rooted in the warm, welcoming nature of the traditional Italian home. The menu will boast dishes traditionally found in Northern and Coastal Italy, allowing guests the opportunity to sample the variety that these gastronomic capitals have to offer. Meanwhile, for wine and beverage enthusiasts the restaurant’s selection of lesser-known Italian and BC wines will offer the perfect pairings for meals, or a digestif to enjoy at the bar.
Locanda dell’Orso will be giving the historic location a ‘facelift’ all’italiana, with bold artwork, creating a classic Italian aesthetic, inspired by advertising seen during the modernist avant-garde movement, known as ‘Futurism’. Bar countertops will boast a chic blend of marble and wood, while walnut flooring, and burgundy eco-leather upholstered booths will offer an intimate environment in which to unwind with a comforting meal and glass of vino.
